The best spots for summer cinema experiences in Rome’s piazzas, parks, and beyond.

Rome in summer means long evenings, warm air, and open-air films across the city. From neighborhood piazzas to a full-on cinema amusement park, here’s where to catch outdoor screenings all season long.

Outdoor movie screening at dusk with a crowd in green chairs. A large screen is set against a dark sky.

Il Cinema in Piazza – Trastevere, Monte Ciocci & Casale della Cervelletta

Organized by the Piccolo America collective, this free festival is now in its 11th year. It runs across three locations and offers 94 screenings — from cult classics to indie — all in their original language with Italian subtitles. No tickets or reservations needed.

  • Piazza San Cosimato (Trastevere) – Intimate and community-focused

  • Monte Ciocci (Valle Aurelia) – Bring snacks and catch the skyline

  • Casale della Cervelletta (Tiburtino) – Quieter, lesser-known, and atmospheric

Casa del Cinema – Villa Borghese

Inside Villa Borghese park, Casa del Cinema offers free nightly films during the summer. Screenings include everything from Viaggio in Italia to The Bridges of Madison County. Shows start at 6 or 8 PM. Booking required: reserve online for €5 via the official website.

Cinecittà World – Themed Cinema Park

If you want to take your Roman summer beyond the city streets, grab your Cinecittà World entrance ticket here and step into Italy’s first cinema-themed amusement park! Think rides, film sets, and stunt show options, a fun activity if you're exploring Rome with kids or want a day trip with a twist.
