Add These Local-Favorite Enoteche to Your To-Drink List

October is rolling in, and so are those cozy laptop-free nights out with friends to chat and connect over a good glass of wine. Skip the glossy, touristic venues and go for a considerate, local choice. Below is a small list of enoteche (Italian for wine bars) where the vibe is relaxed, the staff is welcoming, and you might even catch some music along the way.

Cheese board with nuts, apricots, and flatbread, two wine glasses, and a wine bottle on a dark surface. Cork labeled "Antigal" visible.

Moggio Vineria

📍Via dei Quintili, 51 - Quadraro

A simple room with character, a wide wine list, and an owner who knows how to guide you. The food is seriously good, from loaded salumi and cheese boards to the house “moggi,” which can easily turn into a round two. Smooth booking, attentive and punctual service, soft background music, and a warm atmosphere are all there for a great evening.

Local tip: reserve ahead and do not skip the moggi!

A person pours white wine into two glasses at a bar. Warm lighting and blurred bottles in the background create a cozy atmosphere.

Sospeso Enoteca

📍 Via Gentile da Mogliano, 172 - Pigneto

Down-to-earth, casual hang with an excellent natural wine selection. Food leans towards tapas and shareable snacks: olives and rustic taralli to start, then bruschette and a focaccia (that’s been spotted with duck speck), finishing with classic ciambellette al vino. The staff is friendly and warm, the kind that makes you want to linger longer.

Local tip: start salty with olives and taralli, then keep it simple and share a couple of plates before the dessert.

Enoteca il Piccolo dal 1980

📍 Via del Governo Vecchio 74-75 - Centro

An intimate old-school spot that welcomes first-time visitors with polite service and outdoor tables. Set on lively streets that are perfect for people watching, with the occasional guitarist playing Dire Straits. Drinks go beyond wine, from a Negroni to a Spritz, plus olives, cured meats, cheeses, and a glass of Tuscan red.

Local tip: aim for an outdoor table for peak atmosphere and street music.

Hands raise glasses of white wine in a celebratory toast. The background is blurred, and the mood is joyful and convivial.

Cantina Ripagrande

📍 Via di S. Francesco Ripa, 73 - Trastevere

Thoughtful recommendations, excellent wines, and just-right “sfizi” to match. Their service is attentive and friendly throughout, prices are in line with the neighborhood, and aperitivo can scale up nicely with pasta and snacks. Standout bite: the crostino with burrata and hummus!

Local tip: it’s a small set spot with indoor and outdoor seats, and it fills up fast. So book ahead and ask the friendly staff to pour you something from their vini ricercati.
